Wrestling with the Past: WWE Hall of Fame 2014 Memories

Posted by Anthony Mango Thursday, March 27, 2014
Since the 2014 class of WWE's Hall of Fame has been fully announced, it's time for the yearly edition of WRESTLING WITH THE PAST where we look back on our memories of those performers and discuss our thoughts on their careers.

We will also look forward to next year's Hall of Fame class of 2015 and examine who we would like to see on that list.

List of WWE Hall of Fame Inductees Classes

THIS YEAR'S CLASS:

A video will be posted tomorrow in this spot where we will talk about our memories of Ultimate Warrior, Lita, Paul Bearer, Scott Hall, Jake "The Snake" Roberts, Carlos Colon and Mr. T.

This will take place on the next episode of Smack Talk, so stay tuned!

WHO SHOULD BE INDUCTED NEXT YEAR?

It seems like WWE has a basic organizational structure that they tend to follow, where each class is made up of 1) a headliner, 2) a deceased person, 3) a celebrity, 4) someone who was more popular during the old territory days, 5) a woman, and two to three more people that bulk it out. Following that trend, here are some names I'd like to see included next year.

HEADLINER HONOREE = Sting or The Rock

Supposedly, WWE wants The Rock next year, and I'd be okay with that. Still, I think they can wait to induct him and that it would make sense for Sting to go in and face The Undertaker.

POSTHUMOUS HONOREE = Owen Hart or Randy Savage

Savage deserves to be in before Owen, but the likelihood of that happening isn't as high, so the next best option is Owen by far in my mind. Having Bret Hart and the rest of the Hart Family receive it on behalf of him would be a great way to include them into the ceremony and give credit to someone who needs to be honored.

FEMALE HONOREE = Debrah Miceli or Sable

Similar to the Randy Savage situation, Alundra Blayze definitely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, but WWE may not be willing to induct her. As a safe backup option, give it to Sable. The connection with Brock Lesnar is obvious and I would assume that any hard feelings between Sable and WWE have smoothed over due to his interaction with them over the past few years. She may not be the best wrestler in the history of the company, but her contributions are still there.

CELEBRITY HONOREE = Cyndi Lauper

It's a shame Lawrence Taylor has all those criminal problems, because he would make perfect sense otherwise. Two other names that should be inducted are Muhammad Ali (who could be represented by Laila Ali) and Andy Kaufman (with Jerry Lawler being involved, naturally), although you can't book too many people that have passed away in the same class. Therefore, Cyndi Lauper is one of the only celebrities left that have any real involvement in wrestling and by default, the next best option.

OLD SCHOOL HONOREE = Lou Thesz

Do I really need to explain this?

EXTRA HONOREE = Rikishi or Lex Luger

Rikishi can be inducted by The Usos (preferably if The Rock is not the headliner) and Lex Luger can fulfill a much needed WCW spot (if Sting is not the headliner).

EXTRA HONOREE = The New Age Outlaws

DX obviously inducts these guys.

OTHER PEOPLE I'D LIKE TO SEE DOWN THE LINE:

Jim Johnston, Sycho Sid, "The Model" Rick Martel, Finlay, Harvey Wippleman, Honky Tonk Man, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart, Sean Waltman, Kevin Nash, John Tenta (Earthquake), King Kong Bundy, Jim Cornette, Miss Elizabeth, Eric Bischoff, Hillbilly Jim, Brooklyn Brawler, Lord Alfred Hayes, Chyna, The Godfather, Jack Tunney, Dutch Mantel, Teddy Long, Bam Bam Bigelow, Luna Vachon, Ravishing Rick Rude, Big Boss Man, Davey Boy Smith
