WWE Over the Limit 2010 Predictions

Posted by Anthony Mango Thursday, May 20, 2010
The WWE got rid of Backlash and bumped Extreme Rules up. Then, they take the spot Extreme Rules was in and replace that with Over the Limit, a non-gimmick ppv which is exactly what Backlash was. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm VERY glad they didn't put some stupid gimmick theme into this. The last thing we needed was a whole pay-per-view dedicated to "____ on a Pole" matches. But it still seems a bit odd that they'd bother. Anyway, when you look at this card on paper, it has a ton of potential but I'm not quite sold just yet.

WWE Championship [I Quit Match]: John Cena (c) vs. Batista
Clearly, due to Batista leaving, we won't be seeing a title change here. While that spoils the end of the match, it doesn't render it pointless. Batista's been much more entertaining lately, so it's a shame to see him go, but he may be able to give us something good as a send-away. Still, even if Batista wasn't leaving, do you really think they'd have John freaking Cena say "I Quit"? I'd like to see them somehow tie the quitting stipulation by doing some sort of "you can't fire me, I quit" kind of thing, but I'm too lazy to think of one. I can easily see them not acknowledging Batista leaving at all, as an alternative option, and just having him lose the match, walk away while Cena celebrates, and never be on anymore.

PREDICTION: John Cena retains with an STF.

World Heavyweight Championship: Jack Swagger (c) vs. Big Show
They're starting to really take Swagger seriously as a champion, it seems, so there's no way Big Show of all people will end up taking the title from him. I hope Swagger doesn't win in some cheap way, but really, how is he going to pick up Show and hit his finisher? Therefore, I'm expecting Swagger to win in some other fashion that somewhat hinders what could potentially be a good way to put him over as a heel that can actually win his matches, rather than the standard "heels can't win clean" mentality. The feud will continue and Show will be a part of the foursome at Fatal Four-Way, but after FFW, I think that will be it for these two.

PREDICTION: Jack Swagger retains.

Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk
Once again, they're doing the hair/SES stipulation. Repetitive as hell, and this feud can't go on much longer, so Rey's going to win. It's a shame, as Punk's been made to look like garbage during this feud. They'll end this where these two join Swagger and Show in the Fatal Four-Way.

PREDICTION: Rey Mysterio wins, Punk shaves his head, then overreacts on Smackdown for the next two weeks, as everyone in wrestling forgets that your hair grows back.

Edge vs. Randy Orton
I really, really wanted to see this feud. However, I can't help but think that this is too rushed. This could have been a main event at WrestleMania. It could have headlined SummerSlam. But in 3 short weeks, they have a match, with virtually no build. Being realistic, this isn't going to be the match of the night. It has the potential to be, but I just don't think it will. Here's hoping they keep this feud going, actually give it an upgrade and a boost of adrenaline, and don't rely on just making Edge revert back to his pussy ways as they spent years doing that and it's so old by now that I'm actually not enjoying Edge as much as I used to. He came to Raw and stated that he was going to bring controversy back, yet all I'm seeing from Creative is 07-08 Edge. Hell, they even added Vickie again. Don't go down that dark "same old, same old" road, WWE, especially when you've got such a great chance to have a feud of the year between these two great performers.

PREDICTION: Edge wins to further the feud.

Unified Tag Team Championship: The Hart Dynasty (c) vs. The Miz & Chris Jericho
I cannot under any circumstance see the Hart Dynasty losing their titles this quickly. This will be a good match if given proper time. Since the Miz was made to look like a joke against Bret, I hope Jericho takes the loss.

PREDICTION: Hart Dynasty retains.

Intercontinental Championship: Drew McIntyre (c) vs. Kofi Kingston
I really hope Kofi wins here as I'm sick of Drew and I think he's a waste of an Intercontinental champion. However, he just was given the title back, and I doubt they're going to change things up that fast. Drew probably retains through some cheating, DQ, or intentional count out, and then potentially drops the title a month later or so.

PREDICTION: Kofi Kingston wins via DQ or McIntyre wins by cheating.

Ted DiBiase vs. R-Truth
It's weird. I'm not a big supporter of R-Truth, yet this is actually one of the most interesting feuds right now to me. DiBiase's doing great with his separation from Legacy (though I still wish they'd go back to using the Priceless theme instead of Legacy's theme) and I'll admit it, I still love the Million Dollar Championship. Nostalgia's great, especially if you use it to boost the career of a young, talented guy. Adding Virgil into this is a great little cherry on top, as well. Who wins this match, though, could go either way.

PREDICTION: R-Truth wins after Virgil screws Ted.

Divas Championship: Eve Torres (c) vs. Maryse
Anybody care? Didn't think so.

PREDICTION: Eve retains.
