- The word within the WWE locker room in Baltimore, which plays host to tonight’s WWE Extreme Rules PPV, is that Batista will be finishing up with the company this week. Batista is set to challenge John Cena tonight in a Last Man Standing match for the WWE Championship.
Batista made headlines dating back to this past January when he made it known he was ready to retire within the year, after being burnt out and his aspirations to become a movie star. A majority of the WWE crew arrived early this weekend in Baltimore for the PPV and those within the backstage area believe Batista’s career in the WWE will come to an end shortly after the show.
While this all remains speculation, there is great belief that Batista will indeed retire from the ring.
Hm. Now, while PWInsider isn't an untrustworthy source by any means, I still can't necessarily believe this is true. We've had conflicting reports from all over the place that mention Batista being "a lock" to be drafted over to Raw, so why would they bother doing that if he won't even be there for the draft tomorrow? Plus, with their recent firings and HBK leaving, I doubt the WWE would really want Batista to be out of the company as well. That knocks out their #1 diva and two of their biggest main event stars right at the same time that the Undertaker, Triple H, Rey Mysterio, and John Cena all have expressed that they want to take some time off. I just can't see it happening. But I've been wrong before, so rather than just ignore it, I figured I'd pass on the information and see what you guys think. Personally, I hope it isn't true, as Batista lately has been on fire and VERY entertaining. His heel persona is much better suited to his talents than when he was a face and I was looking forward to seeing him have some newer feuds like with John Morrison and Christian.
If this is in fact true, then it throws one hell of a wrench into my draft predictions (see here) but nothing really for my Extreme Rules predictions (see here).
