What does this entail? Well, spoiler alert, but apparently Dolph Ziggler wins a Triple Threat match this Friday on SmackDown to be determined the #1 contender to Rey's Intercontinental Championship at Breaking Point. Obviously, Rey being suspended for 30 days means he cannot participate in said event. So what do they do? Do they simply reward Ziggler the championship, or do they set up a challenger for him so as to maintain the match? Do they edit that out of the Smackdown broadcast and start a new angle?
There's a trinket of hilarity to this. Mysterio recently bitched and complained that he didn't have a long title reign and that he wanted one. Now, I'm all for Mysterio having a long IC title reign, as he and that belt just merged so well. But due to his own actions, he's being suspended while having the belt, and thus, will have to cut his reign short haha. I just find that funny.
Really, this couldn't have happened at a better time, in some ways. Rey was able to retain against Ziggler and get a decent feud out if it, and now he can lose and it won't seem too fast. On top of that, it is only 30 days, and it won't put that huge of a dent into Smackdown like Edge's injury and Jeff leaving. And this is Rey Mysterio we're talking about...a guy that gets injured a lot. He'll have 30 days to rest now and make sure that he can heal up some nagging wounds.
Your thoughts?
