However, during this past WWE Draft, Ryder was sent to ECW in a "sink or swim" move as his future in the WWE is in question. The story goes, he was given free-range to play a character that he had been working on for a while, since they figured they have nothing to lose now. This new character is simply put, "a North Jersey asshole", and I've got to say...I like it.
Being from South Jersey, we're not really a part of that genre, but every so often, we do run into someone that exhibits such a personality. What a perfect gimmick to be simultaneously funny, but also make you want to watch the guy get his ass kicked! His new haircut, the overuse of sunglasses, the headband, and that annoying catch phrase "Woo woo woo! You know it!" are great ways to exude the character of "douchebag" lol. Even his new entrance music does what it should be doing. Its catchy, but not catchy enough that you want to cheer for the guy. Instead, its a bit reminiscent of the boy band pop music that makes a lot of people mad. Nice way to irk the fans from the moment he's introduced.
It seems as though with this new gimmick, Cardona has more confidence than he used to have, as well. He brings along a new finisher, which is something fresh and much more impressive looking than some of the other finishers we've been subjected to over the years (eg, Vladimir Kozlov's "headbutt" which is just him pushing his hands into someone's chest).
I think this is a definite step up for the young superstar, and I wouldn't be surprised if he was given a slow push similar to what The Miz was given around the time he moved over to ECW.
