WWE Royal Rumble 2017 Results

SIX-WOMEN TAG TEAM MATCH: Naomi, Becky Lynch and Nikki Bella vs. Alexa Bliss, Mickie James and Natalya

RESULTS: Naomi pins Alexa Bliss to get the win for her team.
THOUGHTS: Nothing wrong with this kickoff match.

Backstage, Charly Caruso talks to Chris Jericho and Kevin Owens. Owens says he'll retain the title tonight. Jericho is upset about having to be in the shark cage.

Apparently the commentary team doesn't get individual entrances anymore, but they're shown on camera, so that's kind of interesting.

RAW TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Cesaro & Sheamus (c) vs. Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson

Note: they are calling Cesaro's version of the 6-1-9 the "Swiss-1-9" hahaha.

RESULTS: Gallows and Anderson win the belts when Cesaro is pinned in a roll-up.
THOUGHTS: I'm totally down for new champs.

Austin Aries and Pete Rosenberg take Lawler and Michaels' place on the pre-show panel to talk about some of their predictions.

Charly is backstage with Dean Ambrose in the social media lounge (no Tom Phillips?) answering questions from Twitter about the Intercontinental Championship and so forth. Ambrose is talking again about how he wants a new title belt.

Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax

RESULT: Nia Jax obviously wins.
THOUGHTS: Nothing worth bothering to check out.

Stephanie McMahon announces that Seth Rollins has been banned from the arena.

HBK cuts a promo about the Royal Rumble...nothing too interesting.

RAW WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Charlotte Flair (c) vs. Bayley

RESULT: Charlotte retains the title.
THOUGHTS: Solid match. I'm disappointed Emmalina didn't interfere, but I'm not surprised Charlotte won. She always wins.

UNIVERSAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Kevin Owens (c) vs. Roman Reigns

Having some network connection issues right now...

RESULT: Kevin Owens retains after interference from Braun Strowman.
THOUGHTS: If this means Reigns isn't holding the Universal Championship going into WrestleMania, I'm cool with this. If this is just a means to have Strowman win the Royal Rumble and Reigns win the belt at Fastlane, then I'll be pissed.

There's an elongated promo for KFC's Georgia Gold Honey Mustard BBQ chicken thing. It goes on forever.

Shane McMahon, Daniel Bryan, Mick Foley and Stephanie McMahon are backstage with the balls and the tumbler. Sami Zayn picks a blue ball (insert joke). Dean Ambrose comes to pick his number. He reveals Zayn's number, which is 8.

CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: Rich Swann (c) vs. Neville

RESULT: Neville wins the title via submission.
THOUGHTS: Very glad Neville is the new champion and the match was good as well.

WWE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH: AJ Styles (c) vs. John Cena

RESULT: John Cena via pinfall to win the championship.
THOUGHTS: Fantastic match!

THOUGHTS: Not a fan of that outcome at all...the match was so fun up until the final four. I truly was loving every bit of it until Roman Reigns came out and even worse is when Jericho was eliminated and it was down to three people I didn't want to win. Now, I'm very, very concerned about what WWE has planned for WrestleMania and if Jericho had just won it instead, I would be ecstatic right now.
