Rey Mysterio's contract with WWE has not been renewed, meaning he has quietly been released from the company. WWE moved Óscar Gutiérrez's profile to the alumni section yesterday and it appears as though he will be working with Lucha Underground and/or some other companies with more of a tie to his heritage. Reports are saying that he will be asking for a lot of money for his appearances, but not necessarily wrestling any time soon. This is likely due to how injury prone he is, which is one of the primary factor that resulted in WWE parting ways with him.
I've always thought Mysterio was overrated, personally. While I can agree that he used to be an amazing talent in WCW and his early days in WWE, for the latter chunk of his career, he was a shell of his former self and the booking around him was just ridiculous. Frankly, I'm glad that I won't have to see any more matches where he unconvincingly takes down someone four times his size like Big Show. The next time we see him should be in a Hall of Fame induction years from now.
