WWE Royal Rumble 2016 Spoilers |
Royal Rumble Match
My first prediction for this event was that Dean Ambrose, Daniel Bryan or Seth Rollins would end up winning that. For those counting, that prediction was on January 26, 2015. Lots of things have changed since then. Now, I'm particularly worried that this year's WrestleMania will be garbage and I don't know what's happening with the WWE. The idea that Roman Reigns is defending the title seems like a hail Mary that will be overbooked. Reigns will be starting at #1, which does make sense for the story they want to tell, and I'm sure he'll last until the very end so that he looks strong. Then, Triple H will end up eliminating him (because this storyline dictates his return to screw him over) and we'll end up with a new champion.
Really, the only question is whether Reigns will lose the title to Triple H himself or someone else. With either scenario, Reigns and Triple H will be facing each other at WrestleMania, so it's either for the title on the line or not. If Triple H wins the title, Reigns will have to win a #1 contender's match at Fastlane (probably against Brock Lesnar and/or Kevin Owens and/or Sheamus). There's no other way that this match can be booked from what I can see.
CONFIRMED PARTICIPANTS: Big Show, Curtis Axel, Ryback, Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, Luke Harper, Erick Rowan, Dolph Ziggler, Chris Jericho, Big E, Kofi Kingston, Xavier Woods, Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar, Stardust, Sheamus
PREDICTION: Triple H enters at #30 and wins the belt.
Intercontinental Championship [Last Man Standing Match]: Dean Ambrose (c) vs. Kevin Owens
Kevin Owens has had multiple chances to win back the title and hasn't, which either means WWE is just stalling to give him the belt back or stalling and repeating the same feud because too many people are injured and they don't know what to do with Owens and Ambrose until after the Royal Rumble (or longer than that). I have to assume that Ambrose will retain here just by looking at the track record of how he's been booked against Owens over the past few months, particularly since Ambrose is supposed to be someone who eats a lot of pain and keeps getting back up.
PREDICTION: Dean Ambrose retains.
United States Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Kalisto
So they had this match on SmackDown, then Kalisto won the belt on Raw, then Del Rio won it back on SmackDown, and now we're getting it for the fourth time in a month? Way to run this into the ground. Del Rio will retain and I don't care anymore. Also, this just proves how WWE needs more people on the roster, as these injuries are making matches like this happen so repetitively.
PREDICTION: Del Rio retains.
Divas Championship: Charlotte (c) vs. Becky Lynch
Poor Becky. You're totally not winning this title yet.
PREDICTION: Charlotte retains.
Tag Team Championship: The New Day (c) vs. The Usos
I'm really starting to think The Usos are winning the belts here for no reason other than WWE might want to change things up, but I hope they stay on The New Day.
PREDICTION: The Usos win the titles.

PREDICTION: The Usos win the titles.
Pre-Show Kickoff Fatal 4-Way Match: Darren Young & Damien Sandow vs. The Dudley Boyz vs. The Ascension vs. Mark Henry & Jack Swagger
The winning team qualifies for the Royal Rumble later on in the night, which effectively kills much of my predictions for the entrances because I assumed a good number of these people were all in it. I'm digging the idea of Swagger and Henry (and I really wish they were on some Team America with John Cena and Kurt Angle to face off against The League of Nations at WrestleMania...just saying). I guess The Prime Time Players are done, right? Anyway, this is interesting and I'm down for it.
PREDICTION: The Dudley Boyz win and qualify for the Royal Rumble.
