Here are my predictions for the 2014 WWE Night of Champions PPV. Check back for Night of Champions 2014 results and review coverage here.
WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Brock Lesnar (c) vs. John Cena
Their match at SummerSlam was good, so this match should be good as well. Cena has no shot at winning this match whatsoever. I also think that there's no chance that we'll see a cash-in from Seth Rollins. This is in the interest of making Brock Lesnar look like a fucking tyrant in the ring, so there's nothing at all that will be done to diminish that.
PREDICTION: Brock Lesnar retains.
United States Championship: Sheamus (c) vs. Cesaro
How the mighty have fallen. Both of these men were in much better spots on the card months ago, yet they're afterthoughts now. The United States Championship only matters as much as the holder, the challengers, and the effort WWE puts into it. It was neglected almost entirely with Dean Ambrose and then Sheamus has been MIA most of his reign. It's time to unify the belt with the Intercontinental rather than keep it on life support when it's already doomed. Since Sheamus is doing nothing with it, WWE might as well put the belt on Cesaro. It couldn't hurt, right?
PREDICTION: Cesaro wins.
Intercontinental Championship: Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. The Miz
This feud is still pretty good and I'm looking forward to this match. Both of these men seem to understand the importance of the Intercontinental Championship and want to put in as much effort as possible to help usher in a more credible era for the title. I would expect Dolph to retain here and move on to feud with someone else at Hell in a Cell. If that happens, I personally would love to see that man be Cesaro for a unification of the midcard titles.
PREDICTION: Dolph Ziggler wins.
Mark Henry vs. Rusev
This is a waste, in my mind. It won't do Henry any favors to beat Rusev (not that he has any chance) and Rusev is stuck in this loop where he continues to win but it means nothing. If WWE is hell bent on pushing Rusev with an undefeated streak, they should be giving him the United States Championship instead of doing something like this. Don't expect this to be anything but a slow, lumbering bathroom break of a match.
PREDICTION: Rusev wins.
Divas Championship: Paige (c) vs. AJ Lee vs. Nikki Bella
WWE is merging these two feuds together, which is a good decision. It saves time on the card and the two separate matches would have possibly been too much and not worth the extra effort. Originally, I expected Brie to be added into this match and for Paige to retain by pinning AJ or Brie. Now, I think there's only two ways that this ends. The first option would be to have Paige retain by pinning Nikki after Brie interferes. The second would be Nikki simply winning the championship. I wouldn't call it a guarantee that Nikki wins, but I'm starting to think WWE will put their chips in her basket as opposed to Paige.
PREDICTION: Nikki Bella wins.
WWE Tag Team Championship: The Usos (c) vs. Stardust & Goldust
There's definitely a chance that we crown new champions here. The Dusts aren't working with a red hot fire and the crowd eating them up, but they're looking better than they have in months after their re-debut. Then again, The Usos are holding their own admirably and it isn't as though they need to drop the titles. This would either be WWE sticking with what's working or trying something new for the sake of changing things up, rather than a mercy killing for the Usos' title reign. Hopefully, this will be a good enough match either way and won't be screwed over on time. Now that The Ascension has dropped the NXT titles, I'm more willing to see The Usos retain here and drop it to them down the line rather than lose to Stardust and Goldust.
PREDICTION: The Usos retain.
Chris Jericho vs. Randy Orton
This is pretty much filler, right?
PREDICTION: Randy Orton wins.
^ This match seems to have been called off, with Roman Reigns being injured. Expect to see Dean Ambrose take his place and defeat Seth Rollins instead.
PREDICTED MATCHES
Let's take a look at some of the potential matches that seem as though WWE will be adding...
Bo Dallas vs. Jack Swagger
If any other matches are added, it will be this and it will be on the pre-show or used as a bumper between two more important matches.
PREDICTION: Bo Dallas wins.
