A LOOK BACK ON SEASON 1

With its first season, Total Divas became an instant hit for the E! network and WWE. It centered around the Bella Twins Nikki and Brie (real names Brianna and Nicole Garcia), the Funkadactyls Naomi and Cameron (real names Trinity McCray and Ariane Andrew), second-generation wrestler from the legendary Hart family Natalya (Natalie Neidhart) and two rookies named Eva Marie and Jojo (Natalie Marie Coyle and Joseanne Offerman). The show takes you through their jobs within WWE as well as their personal relationships with significant others and their fellow cast members.

Nikki's relationship with John Cena centered around John's reluctance to take the relationship to the next level (moving in together, marriage, kids) and the strain that caused on the two of them. However, Brie and Daniel Bryan's relationship proved to be much more stable, and although Brie struggled with Bryan's rise to become one of the biggest stars in the company today, the season ended with their engagement.

Natalie and T.J. (WWE's Tyson Kidd) went through some issues themselves, but ultimately became a married couple. Nattie's other main storyline was her frustration with receiving a lack of a push from WWE.

A big plot going forward with season 2 will be the pending nuptials for Trinity and Jon (Jimmy Uso). Ariane also had her romantic issues with her boyfriend Vincent, who seemed to be a constant problem, particularly in regards to her work life.

The two rookies had very different roles in season 1. Jojo was pretty forgettable and did basically nothing but have a short fling with Justin Gabriel and get jealous of Eva Marie, who was clearly the breakout star, showing lots of fire. Eva Marie had her spats with Nattie, was almost fired from WWE, nearly tore her family apart with her engagement to her fiance, had a Maxim photo shoot and so much more.

After a great Season 1, all of the girls will be back except for Jojo, who will be replaced by WWE's Summer Rae (real name Danielle Moinet).

SEASON 2 - EPISODE 1 SYNOPSIS

Nattie kicks off season 2 discussing being on the best roll of her wrestling career. We are then introduced to new cast member, Summer Rae. Summer and Eva will be traveling together and tagging together. The rest of the Divas (mainly Nattie) hate these two and mock the pairing.  Eva tells Brie Bella that she eloped and is now married. Yikes. We now know that Nikki and John Cena are on a break. John texts Brie to wish her a happy birthday and to do the same to Nikki. All the Divas are partying together for Brie and Nikki's 30th birthday, which leads to Nattie getting drunk and getting up on Ariane's boyfriend, Vincent. This leads to an argument that gets broken up by the cops. Eva's parents are coming for a visit and her husband says they need to tell her parents that they are married. This won't end well.

The Bellas are at the Wizard World convention doing an autograph signing where John Cena also happens to be. Eva is making her husband, Jonathan, take all of his belongings to a hotel while her family comes to visit. He is not happy about this. Nikki is wedding shopping with Daniel Bryan and her sister. Nikki is not impressed with where they choose to register. Nikki decides to leave early because she is depressed she won't be getting married to John.

Nattie and Ariane are now making fun of the way Summer Rae said hello in the morning. Nattie explains that Summer Rae needs to become more humble. Nikki apologizes to Brie for walking out on the registry shopping. Nikki is deciding whether to give up everything she wants for Cena.

Eva is worried what the stress from her decision will do to her family. Eva's family arrives at her place and the conversation turns to Jonathan. Eva tries to drop subtle hints that she's married. When Jonathan arrives, things get awkward and her brother notices his wedding band, flat out asking if they've already gotten married.

We come back to Eva's apartment where the question lingers. She tells her family she is married and they're stunned—more deflated than angry, it seems. Nikki gets a text from John saying he wants to meet for dinner. Nikki then calls Brie to talk to her about it. Brie asks her, "what if he proposes?"

Eva is going to talk to her family. Her family expresses displeasure to which Jonathan says he basically doesn't care. Eva turns it around on her brothers, who seem to be the most upset. Eva's father says he's done with the situation. Nikki is getting ready for her dinner with John. The episode ends with Nikki walking up to John and saying "well, I'm here".

REVIEW

Tonight was the perfect table-setter for the entire season. While they started to hint at future problems between the girls, they began by wrapping up two big storylines from last year: Eva's possible marriage and the relationship status of John Cena and Nikki Bella. When Eva admitted to being married, I thought there would actually be more anger out of her family. It came off as a real reaction. I will be interested to see where they go from here with Eva. They started to lay the ground work for Summer Rae being the heel Diva this season, making her come off as arrogant and fake. They were able to push Brie and Bryan's wedding while also getting to see how Nikki is affected by her sister getting married. They left it at a pretty perfect place, with John flying to see Nikki and them possibly getting back together. Next week should certainly be interesting.
