WWE Night of Champions 2013 Spoilers |
WWE Championship: Randy Orton (c) vs. Daniel Bryan
This was inevitable after what happened at SummerSlam. I think at this point, you need to have Randy Orton retain the title, but only in a method that makes both men look good and Daniel Bryan look better. Orton cannot be a totally weak jobber, nor can Bryan lose clean. I'd like to see them incorporate some kind of a finish where Bryan wins the title but Triple H retroactively calls the match a disqualification victory for Bryan instead or something. These two will continue their feud into Battleground and possibly even after that. This is going to be a downer pay-per-view where the heels win everything and such. Big Show could turn heel or screw Bryan. It should be a good match before the ending, though. These two have proven in the past that they work well together.
PREDICTION: Randy Orton retains.
World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Rob Van Dam
I don't know why they're pairing RVD up with Ricardo Rodriguez, but it's awkward as hell. If you know me, you know that these two are two of my least favorite performers on the roster. I have huge reservations about this match and I'm not excited for it whatsoever. I'm curious as to why they decided to make both Christian and RVD look like they'd have rematches against their SummerSlam opponents, but then switched them up. Seems like they didn't plan ahead and thought to themselves "eh, fuck it, who cares?" This is also weird because it's got nothing at all to do with the Triple H / Orton storyline, so it just seems like care even less. It's filler...just like all of Del Rio's title reigns. They should have kept it on Ziggler.
PREDICTION: Alberto Del Rio retains.
Handicap Elimination Match: Curtis Axel (c) vs. CM Punk
Why is this not for the Intercontinental Championship? They're making Night of Champions a pointless concept. There's no reason why this shouldn't be for the title and the idea of making this a handicap elimination match with the gimmick of Punk getting his hands on Heyman doesn't make up for the idea that the whole gimmick of the pay-per-view is that each title is defended. Yes, I know, they're going this route to not have Axel drop the title, but they should have had the foresight to do something different rather than put a champion in a non-title match on a card built around the concept of "all champions defend their titles".
PREDICTION: Punk wins. Stupid.
Divas Championship [Fatal 4-Way]: AJ Lee (c) vs. Natalya vs. Naomi vs. Brie Bella
Makes sense as a means to try to get the Total Divas focus in the title picture. See, WWE? This is how you include a non-title concept with the title. AJ Lee should retain here and move on to a feud with Natalya, who should be booked to be JUST about to win, but AJ squeaks out the victory. Outside of that, there's a good chance that Natalya simply wins the title and they feud after the fact. If she does, I'd expect Natalya to make Brie Bella tap out more so than AJ Lee.
PREDICTION: AJ Lee retains.
United States Championship: Dean Ambrose vs. Dolph Ziggler
At best, Ziggler will simply lose this match. At worst, Ziggler will be made to look like an idiot as punishment for whatever he's done to piss WWE off again. There's no chance that he's winning the title from Ambrose here. Absolutely no chance. He's better than it, too. Ambrose is keeping the title a while longer. This should be a good match, however.
PREDICTION: Dean Ambrose wins.
Pre-Show Kickoff Tag Team Turmoil Elimination Match: Prime Time Players vs. Real Americans vs. Usos vs. 3MB vs. Tons of Funk
The winning team of this match gets a tag team title shot against The Shield later on at Night of Champions. All signs point to the Prime Time Players winning this. I love the idea behind it, as not only should it be a good, fun, entertaining match in general, but it allows them to get those tag titles on the card without much of a build - as WWE clearly is just overlooking those (and the IC and US title...and WHC) in favor of the Triple H storyline and Total Divas. Elimination order? Tons of Funk, 3MB, Usos, Real Americans.
PREDICTION: The Prime Time Players win.
Tag Team Championship: The Shield (c) vs. (Prime Time Players)
You would think Mark Henry and Big Show would get this shot, as they built up to it for SummerSlam and for some reason didn't do it then, but they're not doing this here either. The Shield will retain against whomever they face and the match will be probably nothing much more than a buffer.
PREDICTION: The Shield retains.
PREDICTED MATCHES
LOTS of people are being neglected and for no good reason, really. Cody Rhodes has an excuse with his wedding, as do Mark Henry and Christian with their injuries, but look at how many other people are absent from this card. Big Show has no match. The Miz has no match. Damien Sandow. Ryback. Bray Wyatt. Fandango. Wade Barrett. Kofi Kingston. Big E Langston.
